Network ProgrammingPosted: August 28, 2011
Over on Ubuntu Forums, there are a series of programming challenges for beginners. Since I needed to learn Java before the semester begins next month, I decided to participate and did two of them. The first involved writing a base64 decoder, which was great practice and recap for bitwise operation. More interesting was the previous challenge, which was to write an IRC bot. That introduced me to socket programming, and led me to start reading up on it. Having a general overview of network programming is nice because it’s such a big part of software today, and many experienced developers talk about it. It’s great to be able to understand the language.
Next up, server side software?
